A film created by student in Howard Woolf's FMS 17, Sound in Filmmaking course (Spring 2025). Creative team: Sami Lubart, Sarah Moeller, Cameron Moro, Jupiter Westbard, Alison Yee, and Jack Zhu

Too often, student filmmakers — who by their nature are visually oriented — have a hard time with sound. Sound in Filmmaking is an attempt to demystify the process and provide you with an understanding of how to incorporate great audio into your projects. An introductory-level course, it's built around students becoming the "Sound Team" for a short film on which they’ll collaborate. In doing so, they'll learn how — and why — to use such key tools as shotgun mics, boom poles, lav mics, digital recording decks, and apps for mixing and scoring.
