Editorial Intern
Job Overview
The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal reporting internship offers experience in newspaper and digital news writing and reporting with a focus on business journalism. The intern works 20 hours per week in the Business Journal newsroom for 12 weeks. Hours are flexible, though a set weekly schedule is preferred. Training and supervision are provided.
Job Responsibilities
Reporting and writing assignments include feature articles, such as award-honoree and small-business profiles, and daily digital news stories and features. Interns may pursue additional stories with editor approval. Interns will also attend and help out at Business Journal events. In-office attendance is required, though remote work is acceptable on certain days.
Skills & Experience
The successful applicant is a hardworking, conscientious individual who pays attention to details and deadlines and can demonstrate competency in the basics of eporting and writing news. Multimedia experience with photography and video a plus.
Specific requirements:Candidates must have published clips
Able to demonstrate a proficiency for news writing
Express and demonstrate interest in business journalism as a potential career choice
Proficient using MS Office products (ie; Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
Proficient using communication platforms (ie; Teams, Zoom, Slack, etc.).
Internships are offered to college students, usually those who have completed some journalism courses, and recent college graduates.
Applicants should include a cover letter addressed to Dirk DeYoung, editor-in-chief, a resume and a handful of published news stories that represent the applicant's best work.
