Digital Storytelling Intern

The American Association for the Advancement of Science has an exciting opportunity for a paid summer internship within our Office of Communications!
The team is seeking a digital storytelling summer intern with interdisciplinary skills to help transform data and digital media assets into compelling narratives. The digital storytelling intern will report to the Communications Manager and will work closely across the team to support program and organizational announcements, initiatives, and campaigns with additional support provided for media relations, public affairs, and editorial projects as needed.

What You’ll Do
Take complex data and multimedia assets and help craft engaging narratives across digital platforms
Support the development of multimedia content including copy, graphics and video
Conduct research to support team projects across editorial, digital, social media and public affairs
Audit and update website content
Write stories and content to be featured on AAAS.org and AAAS social media platforms as needed
Participate in brainstorming, team meetings, and projects pertaining to officewide initiatives
Support administrative and other projects as needed
Minimum Requirements
Pursuing a degree in communications, journalism, STEMM, or a related field with an interest in interdisciplinary communications
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Some experience developing multimedia digital content (e.g., copy, graphics and videos)
Preferred but not required: Familiarity with basic UX/UI principles and/or data analytics tools
Willing to juggle multiple projects at once
Enjoys working in a collaborative environment
Detail-oriented with excellent organizational ability
Positive attitude with a curious mindset
Internship Details:
This internship will be expected to come into the D.C. office 1-2 times a week on a hybrid-work basis. This is a 12-week internship, which will run from June 1, 2026 - August 21, 2026. The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this position is $17.95 per hour. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the help of a sponsorship.
