About the event

Join Tisch College for a conversation on addiction, recovery and  mental illness with author, producer, advocate and self-identifying  recovering addict, Nic Sheff. Widely known for his New York Times bestselling memoir Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines and his father, David Sheff’s, novel Beautiful Boy,  Nic’s struggle with substance use disorder and recovery are the subject  of both books. They later inspired the film adaptation of Beautiful Boy, now a critically acclaimed movie starring Timothée Chalamet and Steve Carell.

Nic has written four books on these subjects: High: Everything You Want to Know About Drugs, Alcohol, and Addiction; Tweak; We All Fall Down: Living with Addiction; and the young adult novel Schizo.  Drawing on his history of self-harm and attempted suicide and his  experiences in rehab, Nic was a writer for Netflix’s “13 Reasons Why”  and for ABC Family/Freeform’s series “Recovery Road,” respectively. He  also wrote for AMC's crime drama “The Killing” and has developed TV  series with Warner Brothers, USA, Amazon, and Paramount Television.

The  conversation will be moderated by Tufts senior and Harm Reduction  Education for Drugs and Alcohol activist, Sarah Lotsoff. Her advocacy  and planning made this event possible. The event is cosponsored by Tufts  Hillel, Tufts Harm Reduction Education for Alcohol and Drugs (THREAD),  and the Film & Media Studies Program.
